Lace..Crochet..Tassles..Oh my!

No longer are 'lace' and old-fashioned' used in the same sentence! This popular fashion trend surfaced last year and now in 2011..its here to stay!
This year on the catwalk lace really has taken over, from Pucci to Roberto Cavalli, Valentino and Alexander Mcqueen..
And as designers seek out to try something new, crochet and tassels  are beginning to emerge on the runway.
From maxi dresses, to bags, party dresses  to giant jumpers...what was once 'grandmas craft project' is now high fashion!
I'm obsessed with lace and crochet at the moment because they can be used in so many different ways! Pair a pretty lace skirt with a leather jacket for a stylish or edgy look. Wear a floaty lace dress over bathers to the beach - or add some  heels and wear to a  night out!
And as for tassels...well, who would have thought those funny little things that hang off curtains would one day be fashioned into belts, dresses, and necklaces!

 So...
 Embrace Lace
 Play with Crochet
    and Dazzle with Tassels!

First Look at NEW Versace collection

Bold: a word I would use to describe Versace's just released NEW Pre-fall collection lookbook. With shiny leather pants, leopard prints,  retro patterned jackets and boots, this futuristic cross 60's new collection is not for the fashion shy!

As worn by model Kasia Struss, here's your first look at what's to come from one of fashion's most famous labels...

MY TOP 3 PICKS:

This look is definitely something you'd see worn out on the streets! The lace up knee highs definitely add a new spin to a classic look, and I love the bright printed silk scarf worn around the neck!

Best Pattern Clasher:
(are those crowns on the skirt??)

Be bold with gold:

For some reason this coat reminds me of
a ladybug!... Regardless, I love it!

What do you get when you cross a sci-fi laser beam with some peep toe
                                                        heels? = These amazing shoes!!

The new blue?                                             The new blue shoe?!

Definitely the BEST BAG in the collection!
I'm officially obsessed!

Plastic Fantastic:
(looks great and never gets dirty!)

This bag reminds me of a pillow
- a very metallic one!

Those were just a few of my favourite images from the collection. For more visit: Fashionising.com
Overall I'd say this is going to make for a great fashion show! It's different and experimental...but it works.

So, tip of the day: channel Versace and Be Bold.

A burst of colour

Birthday party- 11/1/2011
Imagine a world without colour...

The other day I went to my adorable little cousins 1st birthday. The house was filled with dozens of balloons whose  bright colours created a fun, party vibe. Inspired by the Dior Cherie perfume ad, I luckily managed to have this photo taken BEFORE all my younger cousins discovered just how fun it is to inhale the helium out of balloons!

Those balloons got me thinking...

As much as I love to wear the classics: black and white, I think that fashion and colour were made for each other!
Colours are endless, and each one has the ability to influence our emotions...

Blue is deep

Andrew Gn                                                      Monique Lhuille

 Green is jealous

 Ellie Saab                                                            Monique Lhuille

Pink is giggly and fun

                                           Martin Grant                                                           Peter Som

Red is confident

 Lanivn                                                           Monique Lhuille

Gold is luxurious

 Armani Prive                                                            Ellie Saab

Purple is mysterious

 Christain Dior                                                     Matthew Williamson

Yellow is happiness

 Christian Dior                                                            Nina Ricci

When you wear one (or many!) colours they can express how you're feeling, or change how others see you. Of course not everyone will suit every single colour, but if you don't look good in say an aqua coloured dress, why not wear it in a bracelet or shoes instead?

So be inspired by colour!
It's weird because as I was writing this post, I looked out the window and saw a full, colourful rainbow just outside!!
All those colours floating in the sky..
Like balloons.

Gypsy meets Warrior

The other day, I was flipping through FashionTrend magazine and looking at the pictures of all the recent runway shows, when I had a sudden wave of inspiration to (just for fun) design something completely different to anything I'd seen before.  I mean, that's what fashion is all about right? - reinventing the old and experimenting  to create something completely new!

The catwalk isn't usually a place for the more 'practical' clothes so I decided to try and come up with a really different, out there theme for my 'mini collection'...Somehow I got: Gypsy Warrior?!
Okay, so I'll explain, Gypsies  follow no fashion rules with their long flowing skirts, silk headscarves, bright coloured fabrics, and an overall air of freedom. A warrior on the other hand would wear a structured heavy armour.. think studs and silver and gladiator sandals! So what on earth would you get if you combined the two?

Here are some of my ideas..

This  is one of my favourites. It is a combination of the warriors armour
and the gypsy's flowing skirt.  The dress  has  a structured, armour-like plate
across the shoulders , and also has a stiff, studded bodice.
However the rest of the dress is airy and flowing (representing the gypsy).

Keeping to the dress + shoulder plate theme.
The diamond at the center would be cutout.

So the question is:  'Gypsy Warrior'... Hit, or Miss?
(I designed these as 'fashion experiments'  and would love to hear what you think, so feel free to comment! If you post a question I'll happily reply)

...and don't forget to follow my blog! :)
